Veronica Sinichko Olenick Wednesday, February 29, 1928 - Sunday, May 14, 2017
Veronica Sinichko Olenick, 89, of Avella, passed away on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, in Transitions Healthcare of Washington. She was born on February 29, 1928 in Colliers, WV, daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Kuzma Sinichko. Mrs. Olenick was a 1946 graduate of Avella High School. She had lived in Avella since 1957 and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Byzantine Rite, American Legion Bert C. Sider Post 643 Ladies Auxiliary and SNPJ Lodge 292 all of Avella. She worked at Breezy Heights Tavern as a waitress and bartender for over 20 years. Mrs. Olenick enjoyed bowling and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. On November 14, 1948 she married George “Greg” Olenick, who died on October 27, 2012. Surviving Mrs. Olenick are: : two sons, Greg (Margie) Olenick of Leesburg, FL, Rick (Bonnie) Olenick of Wellsburg, WV; three daughters, Susan (Tony) Smutney of Avella, Sharon (Kirk) Wiskeman of New Kensington and Judy (Jim) Scaffidi of Mingo Junction, OH; 16 grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Susan Sprando. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband and parents are: a grandson, Scott Smutney; seven sisters, Mary Witkowski, Ann Olejasz, Bertha Kopas, Betty Reagle, Helen Kubachka, Rose Sinichko and Julia Kubacka; three brothers, John, Charles and Michael Sinichko; and an infant brother, Pete Sinichko. Friends and family will be received from 2pm-8pm on Wednesday, May 17, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., located at 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where a Parastas Service will be held at 6pm on Wednesday. Panachida Service will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, May 18, in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Divine Liturgy at 10am in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church - Byzantine Rite in Avella, with Rev.
