James Fusarelli Wednesday, February 18, 1920 - Friday, March 24, 2017
James Fusarelli, 97, of Avella, died on Friday, March 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 18, 1920 in Gallatin, PA, son of the late Antonio and Maria Suppo Fusarelli. Mr. Fusarelli worked in various coal mines as a machine operator for 42 years retiring from Valley Camp Coal Co. in Tridelphia, WV in 1976. Mr. Fusarelli was a member of the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, the Polar Star Mutual Benefit Society, the SNPJ Lodge #292 and the Cross Creek Valley Senior Citizens. He was a caring family man, who loved storytelling and was an avid hunter and gardener. Mr. Fusarelli was a resident of Avella since 1936. He was the last of his immediate family. On April 20, 1941 he married Mary E. Bartanus, who died December 12. 2015. Surviving Mr. Fusarelli are: two daughters, Marlene (Harry) Barrett and Rosemary (John) Eakin both of Hookstown; a son, Anthony (Michele) Fusarelli of Upper Gwynedd; five grandchildren, Bill (Erin) Barrett, Brian Barrett, Deanna (Byron) Beardmore, Marissa (Michael) Rock, Michael (Ashley) Fusarelli; 10 great grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Nicholas, Noah, Erika, Anthony, Taylor, Madison, Avery and Lauren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife of 74 years and his parents, are: a brother, John Fusarelli; and three sisters Mary Lusakow, Susan Lis and Margaret DiBacco. Friends and family will be received from 2pm – 8pm on Monday, March 27, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., located at 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, located at 97 Highland Avenue Avella, PA, with Rev. Robert M. Staszewski officiating.
