Dolores V. Sprowls Wednesday, April 21, 1926 - Saturday, February 11, 2017
Dolores V. Sprowls, 90, of Avella, passed away at 6:00am on Saturday, February 11, 2017 in her home surrounded by family. She was born on April 21, 1926 in Avella, daughter of the late David N. and Matilda Rohr Vicheck. Mrs. Sprowls was a 1944 graduate of Avella High School. She worked for Grants in Washington as an office manager for many years, until her retirement. Mrs. Sprowls was a lifelong resident of Avella and was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, where she was the CCD coordinator and President of the Christian Mothers for over 50 years. She also worked at the local polling station in Independence Township during elections. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her family, and was very instrumental in creating memories with them. She handmade her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes each year, she was an excellent baker and made cakes for everyone. All of the neighborhood children affectionately called her “Aunt Dory”. On April 14, 1948, she married Harold J. Sprowls, who died on April 21, 2004. She was the Last of immediate family. Surviving Mrs. Sprowls are: a daughter, Milissa (Vincent) Yevins of Washington; six grandchildren, Matthew Yevins, Erin Yevins, Eric (Judy) Majeski, Jason Majeski, Joshua Sprowls and Gregory Sprowls; son-in-law, Gary Majeski of Burgettstown; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are: a daughter Judith Majeski; a son, Harold J. “Bud” Sprowls Jr.; a grandson, Jeremy Sprowls; four brothers, Edmund, Jerome, David Jr. and James Vicheck; six sisters, Ethel Petraniero, Elsie Leeper, Hilda Mitchell, Louellen Avetta, Matilda Welshans and Alice Slomski. Friends and family will be received from 1pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm on Tuesday, February 14, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., located at 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, February 15, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, located at 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, with co-celebrants Rev. Robert M. Staszewski and Rev. Alvin Gutierrez. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Avella. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael Church or Concordia Hospice of Washington.
