Charles N. “Chuck” Kern, 59 of Avella, passed away unexpectedly in his home on June 24, 2017. He was born April 23, 1958, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Norman Joseph and Vera Grace Malesic Kern. Chuck was a 1976 graduate of Keystone Oaks and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from West Liberty State College in 1980, where he was a member of the baseball team. He was the General Manager at the Bison Inn in Bethany, WV since 1980 and he was assistant coach for the Women’s Softball team at Bethany College. Chuck was very involved in the Avella community. He was a member of the Avella Volunteer Fire Department Station 35 since 1995, and was currently the Assistant Chief. He also assisted the Bethany Fire Department. He was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Avella Sportsman’s Club and was a former member of the Pittsburgh Umpire Association. Chuck was a passionate sports fan. He loved attending Steeler games and all Bethany College sporting events. He lived in Avella since 1985 and was the last of his immediate family. Surviving are his two daughters, Bethanie and Courtney Kern; and Jody L. Kern all of Avella. Deceased in addition to his parents are a sister, Bonadale “Bonnie” Wilson. Friends and family will be received from 1-4pm and 6-9pm on Tuesday, June 27, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., located at 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, a mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 28, in the St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, located at 95 Highland Avenue, Avella, with Rev.
